Caribbean Hard Corals !
AquaTouch is pleased to offer in limited
availability: aquacultured hard corals from the Caribbean. There are
no legally collected Atlantic hard corals in the aquarium trade. These
corals are naturally settled larvae that are grown on aquaculture
substrate and are typically 1 year old by the time they are sold.
We are pleased to offer these unique species not found in the
Indo-Pacific coral trade.
In time we hope to expand the variety of corals available. Please check
back to this page in the future for updates and new specimens.
Manicina areolata
(Linnaeus, 1758) Family: Faviidae
Common Name: Rose Coral
Price: $39.99 Purchase: Contact us for
availability
HERE
This species is similar to the Pacific
hard coral Trachyphyllia geoffroyi where young colonies will develop as
solitary polyps with a loose attachment to the substrate. Mature
corals can be massive and encrusting. The color is often cream to beige
with reddish brown along the perimeter and above the septa. Some
juvenile polyps can have green pigments in the tissue as well.
Rose coral does very well in captivity.
It's natural habitat is lagoons where it experiences significant
temperature, water clarity, and salinity variations throughout the year.
This makes it highly adaptable to reef aquariums. Juvenile polyps should
be epoxied to a hard surface. Once attached they can grow quite rapidly.
